AC Milan are still keen on signing Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz when the chance next arises, according to a new transfer update.
The Lowdown: Luiz stays put
The Brazilian was endlessly linked with a move away from Villa Park during the summer transfer window, with a fresh challenge looking likely to come his way.
Despite Arsenal’s best efforts on deadline day though, Luiz ended up staying put, with the club holding firm and not allowing him to move on even despite the risk of losing a top asset for free in 2023.
Milan were another who were eyeing up a move and it looks as though they haven’t turned their attentions elsewhere yet.
The Latest: Milan still keen on move
According to Calciomercato, the reigning Serie A champions are interested in signing Luiz next summer after the 24-year-old’s Villa deal expires.
It is highly likely that he will leave at that point, rather than extend his stay, and technical director and all-time legend Paolo Maldini sees him as a strong option to bring to Milan.
The Verdict: Matter of time?
In truth, it was a huge bonus that Villa managed to keep hold of Luiz beyond the summer, and Steven Gerrard must now get every last ounce out of him before he inevitably leaves.
In an ideal world, the midfielder would sign a new deal with the club and remain there for many years or at least increase his transfer value, but the lure of Milan is great and it is clear that a new challenge appeals to him.
A player of Luiz’s quality deserves to be playing for a club of the Rossoneri‘s calibre if he’s not representing Villa – he has been called ‘outstanding’ by Gabby Agbonlahor – so it would be an ideal option for him moving forward.
