Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly emerged as favourites to sign Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson in the summer.
Tottenham and Southampton have agreed a transfer fee for Saints midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg after weeks of negotiation.
Jose Mourinho has now turned his attention to signing a backup striker for Harry Kane and Wilson is at the top of his wish list.
That’s according to The Daily Star, via @HotspurRelated, who report that the Bournemouth forward is his number one target.
Spurs have been linked to Wilson for some time now, as the 28-year-old was tipped to move to north London last year amid rumours of an £80m double swoop by former boss Mauricio Pochettino.
While a move failed to materialise, Mourinho is determined to succeed where his predecessor could not.
The 4-cap England international has told the Cherries he wants to leave the Vitality Stadium and Spurs are the front-runners in the race to sign him this summer, ahead of Newcastle United and West Ham.
It is understood that Bournemouth have slapped a £20m price tag on his head but Spurs are confident the two clubs can reach a compromise following their relegation from the Premier League.
While Wilson struggled for consistency last season, having scored eight goals in the top flight, Mourinho rates him highly and he could play alongside Kane or provide injury cover from the bench.
He could turn out to be an absolute bargain, as he registered 14 goals in the Premier League in the season beforehand whilst last season he averaged 1.6 shots per game (WhoScored).
However, Daniel Levy will have to move fast if he wants to avoid a transfer battle at all costs. Whether or not Wilson will want to play second fiddle to his international teammate is another matter entirely but early signs are promising.
