da 888casino: Another defeat leaves Norwich City two points clear of third from bottom Newcastle and three points away from Swansea City, who are one place above them.
da luck: If Newcastle win against Everton on Wednesday evening, Norwich will drop into the bottom three and I don’t see a way back – sadly.
Norwich are one of those clubs that quietly goes about their business. Stuck up there alone in the north of East Anglia, they are a well run club and unless you are an Ipswich Town fan, most fans don’t mind them.
That aside, they hardly set the world alight and never appear able to compete. They get promoted, they get relegated, then they get promoted again and so the yo yo effect takes place.
In Alex Neil they have a good young manager, but what they don’t have is the depth or quality in the squad. After the January window closed, Norwich fans tweeted that they were happy with their transfers and many decided it was their best window yet. Really?
Take a look at their transfers and the only quality I can see is Steven Naismith. Everton were mad to let him go, but I fear his talents will not be seen in the top league next year, as their January reinforcements lack that spark.
They’ve bought for the future, that’s for sure. James Maddison, a last minute signing from Coventry City, is apparently one for the future and I’m guessing that the Ebou Adams from Dartford is a future prospect as well.
In attack, they’ve taken Matt Jarvis from West Ham on a permanent deal and they also have the up and coming Patrick Bamford on loan from Chelsea. Defensively ,though, even the acquisitions of Klose and Ivo Pinto can’t hide their achilles heel. In defence they are woeful. A goal difference of -18 tells its own story.
In a nutshell, whilst Norwich fans were thinking the window was a success, the 3-0 defeat to Spurs proved otherwise and bearing in mind the farcical display against Liverpool, again at home, it means six points have been dropped and the realisation that you’re just not good enough.
Norwich’s next game is away at Aston Villa, the league’s complete no-hopers this season. Neil’s side stand a chance, as Villa are unbelievably worse than the Canaries with a goal difference of -22 and sit ten points worse off than their East Anglian rivals.
Formed in a cafe in 1907, it’s fair to say that City have had a roller-coaster ride with little to show for their efforts. Winners of the League Cup on two occasions and occasional winners of the old third division and second division titles and division one winners in 2003-04, that is all that can be seen in the trophy cabinet at Carrow Road.
In the entirety of the Premier League, Norwich have had eight seasons in the top flight, but never bettered their 3rd place finish in the 1992-93 season in the Premier League.
I hope that they find Lady Luck on their side and they turn things around, as one decent result can soon start to lead to others, as Leicester City found last year. It’s not too late and they do have games against Sunderland and Newcastle at home, but as others pick up around them, Norwich just haven’t had that rub of the green so far.
